My name is Nick Spalding. My main job is working as a conductor for the railroad and I’ve been an artist all my life to some degree but not until recently did I take it very seriously.
It was the end of 2013 that I really took it seriously, I had gotten into a tattoo apprenticeship which was what I wanted to do out of anything else and was so excited. It didn’t last long though as I could not quit my full time job on the railroad which supported my wife and children and had to give up my apprenticeship (I had to go back to working over the road on call 24/7)
After that happened I told myself I would focus and improve my art to the best of my ability until I can get back into it and hopefully quit the railroad all together. The art I’ve been doing lately has been a mix of charcoal, colored pencils and oil paintings which works well with working on the railroad. When I’m at home I work on some oil paintings as they can dry while I’m traveling and while I’m doing that I can work on my charcoal or colored pencil pieces.
I enjoy doing horror pieces, pop culture pieces and home town city related pieces.
