My name is Martin Pottjewijd and I’m a graphic designer and self thought sculptor. My creations are a glimpse into a world that could have been created. The main focus is sculpting fictional buildings from the past and recreate homes with commissioned sculptures. About 12 years ago I felt the urge to do more with my hands and make unique pieces of art. It all started with making characters and figures until one day I saw a bolder that needed a castle on top. Then It struck me! And I haven’t stopped building ever since.
I work with polymer clay and the sculptures are painted with different types of paint. Each building is placed onto a rock that complements the architecture style and story of the building. It’s like being an architect on a small scale, the rock tells me where I can and can’t build. There is a nice supply of rocks waiting in the garden to be picked and become part of an artwork.
Besides my buildings there is more to see. I make colorful figures and a do monthly clay cartoon for the American polymer clay Company Polyform Products. As a graphic designer and sculptor I work part time for Havo BV, a Dutch company in creative products. I’m very fortunate to be the clay demonstrator for this company and tell people from all over the world about clay and other creative products.
So this is my creative journey so far. The main goal in my life, is to make the world more beautifull with art and graphic design. I hope to inspire people or just make them smile and earn some money along the way. Thanks for reading and perhaps you want to follow me. So much things are still waiting to be created!
